This Fourth of July, a resident near Lobelia experienced a harrowing event that could have ended in tragedy. At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Friday, a single-vehicle crash involving a Toyota Tacoma occurred on Lobelia Road, just east of McGill Road. The driver lost control as the truck navigated an S-curve while heading west towards Vass, leading to a dramatic sequence of events.
The vehicle veered off the road, colliding with a tree, spinning around, and then narrowly avoiding a second tree and a cable marker. It ultimately came to rest on its driver’s side against another tree. Incredibly, the male driver, who was the sole occupant of the truck, managed to extricate himself from the wreckage and was seen walking along the road when emergency responders arrived.
Injuries and Emergency Response: What Happened Next?
The young man displayed only minor injuries, primarily to one of his hands, but was promptly transferred to Moore Regional Hospital for a thorough medical evaluation. Emergency personnel, including units from Crains Creek and Cypress Pointe Fire Departments, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department, responded quickly to manage the scene. Initial concerns for entrapment led to a swift request for Cypress Pointe Fire Department, but these were quickly dismissed when it was confirmed he was the only occupant.

The N.C. Highway Patrol indicated that excessive speed contributed to the loss of control, although impairment wasn't a factor.
