As Wright, who has tirelessly prepared for each giveaway, notes with a heavy heart, “It’s sad… I’m going to miss it now.” The team has experienced challenges recently, from finding adequate workspace to the sheer physical toll of maintaining the organization, not to mention the emotional attachment to the event. Community Collaboration: The Road Ahead Project Santa plans to continue its mission by partnering with charities such as Bikes for the World, which sends bikes to countries in Africa and Central America. The shift aims to support these global initiatives while still benefitting local communities. As Phil Benton, Wright’s right-hand man, eloquently puts it, the bicycles not only provide leisure activities for children but can also significantly enhance the lives of individuals in developing nations, facilitating access to education and work. Final Call for Donations As Project Santa gears up for its last giveaway, they are calling for community support. With a target of 800 new bicycles, the organization is currently short, having managed only around 200 bikes. Local involvement is crucial, as the event will take place at the Walmart Supercenter parking lot in Aberdeen from 8-11 a.m. on Christmas Day. Each child will be able to choose a bike, but parents are reminded that all children must be accompanied by an adult. For those interested in donating, you can drop off bikes at Rainbow Cycles in downtown Southern Pines or make monetary donations at Woodforest National Bank in Aberdeen.
