Mark Your Calendars for Blueberry Fun
This June 6, the beloved Eagle’s Nest Berry Farm is kicking off its highly anticipated blueberry season with a bang! Prepare for a fun-filled day of live music, games, and community spirit. The whole family can enjoy a vibrant celebration alongside the chance to pick juicy blueberries. With the local band Whiskey Pines strumming tunes starting at 11 a.m., attendees can groove while indulging in nature’s sweet rewards. Admission is affordably priced at $8 for adults and $5 for children, ensuring everyone can join the festivities.
Drought and Resilience: The Real Story Behind the Berries
However, not everything is as sweet as the berries themselves. This year’s drought conditions have impacted the farm’s crop yield significantly. According to Elaina Williams, who operates the farm with her family, "Although we do irrigate, we don’t have near as many blueberries as we did last year." The hardworking family, who have cherished this land for generations, continue to show resilience and dedication, bringing joy to visitors despite reduced berry quantities. With nearly 3,000 blueberry bushes, there will still be plenty of fruit to enjoy, alongside blackberries and seasonal vegetables available as the summer rolls on.
Cherishing Family Traditions and Community
Eagle’s Nest Berry Farm isn’t just about picking berries; it’s about creating memories and fostering connections. Established in 1999 by the late Navy Captain Larry Richardson, the farm has blossomed into a cherished local gem, maintaining values of family and community throughout the years. This season, visitors will notice a new stage and a charming picnic shelter that can be rented for gatherings, enhancing the atmosphere of togetherness that the farm strives to cultivate.
